I'm putting one of these in my garage. They're not regulation size... about 12 inches... but they'll work.

Yeah, the western part of the US has a lot fewer potential stops than east. We did a 17 day western trip 5000+ miles a couple of years ago and really had to plan the fuel stops. Also, the temps were 106F and UP... 112 in NV. We have mesh jackets which help keep us cool and helps slow down dehydration.

PC has done more research on the bike rentals than I have, so I'd go with his recommendations.

Cheers.

What I was seeing is that there is a fee for one way rental, but that's pretty standard.  Even the moving truck rental places do that.  Also, I did a quick web search and there's way more companies offering the west to east route then vice-versa.  California is a popular starting point it seems.  Personally, I'd rather start in the east so I can get good and comfortable in the saddle with some miles under my belt before I hit the desert.  Texas, New Mexico, & Arizona have some real long stretches of road with not a whole lot out there.  You'd wanna be settled in good for that.

I don't know about the price difference east or west.

Usually, you have to return the bike to the same place you got it... so it would have to be a round trip deal. I would find a couple of companies and what they offer.

Thank you, for the information. Because most drive the distance of the east to west, I have belonged some rental company companies Problems have to get the motorcycles again after the east.
One could begin also his tour in west and gets a better price. Is this thus? I would like to make no controlled tour rather for myself alone. We are 2 bikers.

Looks like that got it covered. Heat is the biggest problem... I can take some rain, but the heat is hard to beat. Its very dry and will suck the moisture out of you quickly. Make sure you plan for that.

As for the rentals, there are a couple that I know of that are decent, depending on how you want to do it.

Eaglerider is a top notch deal.  You can do guided tours, or you can go it on your own.

Route 66 Riders advertises a west to east route, but they've gotta get the bikes back to California somehow.  I'd suggest seeing about you riding them back!  Maybe they'll cut you a break on pricing

June would be nice temps, but you run a little higher risk of rain possibilities.

July would be pretty nice still, with less rain chances.  The deserts and mountains are beautiful that time of year.

August would be the lowest rain chances, but also the highest temps.  The deserts can get pretty warm in the heat of the summer.

Early September would be OK, though the rain chances go up and you get later in the month.

If it were me, I'd probably go in July.  Hard to beat it then.  Plus, if you get here early enough you could join in our Independence Day celebrations on July 4th!  Oh, and you'll enjoy Flagstaff, AZ.  It's a beautiful southwestern city.  High enough in altitude that it doesn't get so hot as the desert floor, but definately has that southwestern flavor.

Hello,
I plan the next year to drive the route 66 from the east to west.
Question when is the best season? Who is the best motorcycle loaner? About all information I would be grateful.
Greeting Reiner
