Timing Question

its been completely torn down. now that ive got the timing figured out i can finish it up. just got the rocker cases to go

Roll the engine over several times by hand before you try to start it, just to make sure there is no valve to piston crown interference....Did you have the heads off or what? Be sure you set the chain tensioners up correctly!!!!!!

Thanks for the input guys. Think i got it now. Cant seem to get the timing plug to come off but im pretty sure ive got it figured out now. I for some reason thought the mark on top of the case was the timing mark but after messing around with it and looking at everything i think ive got it. but thank you for the image from the factory manual. was very helpful even after the fact. Lesson learned lol

Maybe this pic will help clear up some of my confusion. Is the timing mark on my case. Not really sure but thats what i assumed to be and have been basing my tdc on. Its on the upper part of the case

Don't know of this helps: If the ignition timing marks aren't lining up, you need to test the pickup coils, and if those are okay, the ECU...

5deg BTDC @ 950rpm ~ 27deg BTDC @3750rpm.

Have you had a look with the alternator cover off.

There are marks on it too. Look for a metal protusion on the engine case that looks like "  }  " but angled at about 10:30 o'clock pointing SSE.

I got TDC on the front cylinder ("peering" into the plughole) and (lobes closed), put the chain on.  Then it is 305 degrees ANTIclockwise, from left side of bike (NOT the same thing as 55 degrees clockwise) to set up the rear.

Spin it full circle a few times to get the hang of it. If you miss it contine, Anticlockwise and get it on the next sweep.

Then it must be the cam timing. My problem is that at TDC none of my stator timing marks line up

I'm trying to set the timing on my 99 drifter 1500. I understand that the pistons must be at TDC to time the cams. not so much the issue. My problem is that TDC for my pistons, doesn't line up with the timing marks on the stator. Any light you guys can share would be appreciated
