Veteran's Day

Someone posted on Facebook: "on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month we will remember you"; all well and good; however, I prefer to never forget....

May God Bless ALL the men and women who have served, and all those who will serve; your sacrifice is immense.

A vet, combat or otherwise, did his duty and served his/her country. We all know there are many jobs within the military... each with its own challenges and dangers. Decrypting a message in error, failing to test a repair to an aircraft or vehicle, improperly logging a lube-oil reading, crossing up transfers, screwing up logistics, failed communications, poorly feeding the troops... all of these things could cost lives, lose battles, or worse. Twelve hour shifts, working until your fingers freeze, hauling gear until you think you just can't move another inch - heat stroke, frost bite, plain old bone weariness, fear, anger, loneliness, pain....  No, EVERY veteran who did his best and served his nation honorably deserves our thanks.

  I did my job once more this year and took 2 WWII vets to the service, and they really enjoy sitting in the ranks of all thier commrades and friends, mind the seats are showing more empty spaces as they pass away.
I was just a tad too young and Canadian for Vietnam, they left me behind during the Gulf wars, and I was too old for the Afgan war but I did do my time during the Cold War and I feel some what embarrassed when I am in uniform and someone comes and thanks me and shakes my hand but I do say thanks to them and carry on. My old guys are in their 80's now so they will not be around for much longer either and so I'll have to find some one else to take to the parades and for a meal at the legion afterwards........

Thanks Chief and Troll who was old enough for Vietnam......and all the others.....

I know there are a bunch of on here. Take the time during the coming year to thank a Veteran. Welcome a Vietnam Vet home, shake a Gulf War vet's hand, buy an Iraq war vet a drink, say good job to an Afghan war vet, tell a Korean War vet that war is NOT forgotten.

A reminder:
Veteran's Day is set aside to honor/thank EVERYONE who has served our country.
Memorial Day is intended to remember all of those who have died in the service of our country.
