Doing the speed limit, versus sitting on the side of the road.

Over the last 8 days, we(the wife and I)have put in about 3000 miles, unfortunately it is in the pickup and pulling a cargo trailer. I am a good one for setting my cruise at the speed limit. It is absolutely mind-boggling how many fools there are out there who have to pass where there is NO ROOM to pass; passing on double solid lines, blind corners, and expecting everyone else on the road to get out of the way for them. If people want to kill themselves they should do it at home instead of involving others who want no part of their asinine driving habits. >:(

Ride safe, drive safe, live long and enjoy it.

Regards and such,

By going 70 instead of 65, you are saving a whole 4 seconds a mile....

Well today I put on a tad over 400kms, and the cops were out in force. I got stopped as I pulled into the last gas staion on my ride...lol....they were towing a huge boat and heading into the lakes for aboat patrol, OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) the reason they stopped me was so they could check out the bike, and just mess with me because of my Veterans Tag, it was all in good fun. Later there was a speed trap  and I was running along at 100km in a 80km zone and they just waved at me, so perhaps I was lucky.
I'll wager if I had been in my Jimmy I would have been tagged for that speed.

You can see this mentality in much shorter spans of highway... from red light to red light. There are people who will literally risk an accident to get to the next red light two seconds before you do.

As long as there are people, there will be fools.

Doing the speed limit, versus sitting on the side of the road.

People just don't sit down and sometimes crunch the numbers.

Oxford MS is about 30 miles away, and police love that road, the limit is 55.
and many people commute to Ole Miss for college.
If you do 55, it takes you what, 35 minutes to cover the distance.
at 65, it takes you 28 minutes, you make up 7 minutes, it is not worth the ticket and the time lost sitting on the side of the road for that 7 minutes, i would rather leave a little early and not have that issue.
But every day there are several people that lose the gamble and they travel that road every day, you would think they would learn.

A friends wife has had 3 tickets in a year.
along the same stretch of road, 2 by the same officer, yet she persist in doing 60+.(she sets the cruise control)

Now over an 17 hour trip, the 4 or 5 miles an hour over the limit does add up, but that is normally on the interstate, where the rules are a little different.

We all know MOST highway patrolmen, will give a speed limit plus 3 - 5 over, and not bother you if are in a car, (especially on the interstate system out in the middle of nowhere,) and the city and county officers tend not to be so lenient.

The 3-5 over the limit does't seem to apply as much to us on bikes, on the interstate because we are not as numerous as the cars, therefore, we draw attention to ourselves, and we get popped.

I have been on both sides of the traffic stop, it is not something against you personally, or a ticket "quota" that he has to fill.

You simply did something to draw his attention, at a time when you were not paying attention to what you were doing, (crossing the line, swerving, speeding, or a whole list of other possibilities)

On a Drifter you draw extra attention as it is, so we need to be extra careful that it is not at a time when we don't want the extra attention.

Good Luck, Ride Safe
