Cooling fan

Yeah i wasent worried about on the road expecialy in traffic but thought it was strange that it would come on when I shut down. Thanks for your info.

I've ridden my 800 for 3 years now. I live in Central Texas where typical Summer temeratures are in mid-90's. When I shut my bike down after a ride the fan will come on for about 45 seconds to one minute. While on a ride the fan will cycle on at long stop lights. The fan was engineered to be there for a reason. Be glad it's working properly. I use fully synthetic oil but it makes no difference to fan cycling compared to Dino oil. The red light means big trouble. So, no red light, no trouble.

Make sure your radiator grill is clean and free of bug debris (personally I'm no fan of the grill covers) and make sure your oil pan is clean and free of mud and/or grease. The oil pan serves as a heat transfer devise for cooling the oil. Double check your coolant level in the site gauge.

I have a 2000 drifter 800.  Ive noticed that just about everytime I shut down the cooling fan kicks on.  The dummy light dosent light up.  I dont know if this is normal or that i might have to look at the thermostat.  Figured I would bounce this off of you guys before i venture further.  Thanks
