Nice thought to change the colour. Had a long hard think about it but decided original Gooseberry is the way to stay. Boring yes, but it has grown on me.

I understand what you're saying, it's a shame scuffing a good paint job, but I was just thinking if you had ever considered a "custom" paint job, 2-tone, unique colors, or anything like that, now would be the time to do it, and you could probably make a deal with whoever is painting it to get your "extras" a lot cheaper since it's already getting painted.

I sure understand, especially being your Dad's bike, you might have wanted to keep it like it was.

Just a thought - had he ever mentioned any paint work he would like to do but never did, or perhaps he had another vehicle he liked and you could "duplicate" the colors in his honor (for example my dad has a 57 chevy he really likes, and it's yellow ....)     Just a wild thought.....

Glad you're OK, first of all, and second, it sounds like the bike is repairable, which is a blessing too.

Maybe you'll end up with a great paint job out of this deal in the long run, who knows.

I always wear armored clothes, you just never know. Around here,  unless a crash has $1000 worth of damage, you don't HAVE to report it, but most people still do...what with the cost of just simple paint being what it is, it doesn't take long to get to the magic number. Good for you that you have a witness...the damned insurance companies will try to screw you out of whatever they can. I don't know how you do it in your country, but if there is a scratch on a motorcycle fender here, the dealer will only replace the part not repair it.  What ever happens, get FULL RETAIL PRICE for the parts....

Washbrook sorry to hear about the incident/accident.This is what we all fear in the back of our minds every time we start out on our journeys.It's amazing how the famous words "didn't see you" always comes out!Sure glad your ok as I'm sure DAD would have been as well,brother.Like JH said be sure the shop goes over your ride with a fine tooth comb so evrything is found now not later on.Wish you well on this matter.

Unless someone is injured, the police do not attend accidents so no police report. One good thing, a couple in a 4WD following me pulled over and gave their details. When I called them this evening the wife confirmed that they were willing to be a witness and confirm that the other car pulled out in front of me.

My pride is hurt far more than anything else, although there may be more damage to the bike  than I originally thought. I checked a while ago and there is a small pool of radiator fluid under the bike. Luckily I was booked in tomorrow to get some work done on the bike, ie fit a PC-V and other stuff, they are now going to check it out For insurance as well.

I was more upset about the bike than myself. I actually have my mother visiting so telling her about Dad's bike when I got home was worse than hitting the concrete ( I inherited dad's Drifter when he died late last year). When I told my wife, she was surprised I didn't explode at the woman driver.

I was wearing my new Bohn Armoured Pants (www.bohn-armor-pants.com) under my Draggin Cargo Pants so I actually felt nothing. A friend from another forum introduced them to me about a month ago, I owe him some beers.

Now I'm back to riding my V-Star 650 until the Drifter is fixed.

I'm going to assume there was a police report...how did they write it up, as in who did they say was at fault? Her insurance should have to pay for ALL of the damage, but often, depending on the police report, your company gets stuck with at least part of it...unless you are blessed with "no fault" laws..which really suck.

This is important..

When the insurance inspector checks your bike tell hem to pay close attention to the frame where the engine guard mounts..Quite often the force of the guard hitting the ground makes the guard act as a lever and can force the frame to distort..

Once the insurance has paid out they will not go back and give you more money for something that was missed.

I road the Drifter home,

About an hour ago a stupid woman pulled out of a side road in front of me and despite my efforts to avoid her, I ended up skidding a bit and hit her car with the Left Hand Side of the bike in lieu of the front of the bike. A better rider may have avoided her but such is life. Despite the fact that I was on the main road and she was pulling out of a side road she still believed it was my fault. She did't see me. Funny that she saw the two cars in front of me that were turning left but did not see me. If she had been out on the road then I would have hit the rear of her car in lieu of the side.

The engine guard, which is now bent, certainly paid it's way today.

From the looks of things there is only minor damage, front fender paint, windshield gouged, clutch leaver & res may need replacing, engine guard bent, engine guard chap ripped, rear indicator scrap, LHS foot board bent. That's all I can see so far. I had my bike booked in tomorrow to fix my clutch and fit the PC-V so I have asked them to do an insurance claim / inspection as well.

Well this my third time off a bike since I was 16 y/o, No.1 - I hit a cow (I can hear you all laughing), No.2 - Caught my pant lef on my foot pegs and dropped the bike, No.3 - today.

I was lucky this was minor. I'm posting this more as a vent and way of calming down than for any other reason.
