ya, agree, thanks CDD.  I called two shops (knowing about the cold engine) and one said drop it off in the morning and they can do same day.  The other said must leave overnight so, going with 2nd shop.

Thanks everyone.

 bpurvis68,
I know that money spent is money spent, but peace of mind has value. The  valve / lifter check / adjustment should be done on a stone cold engine. Setting for at least 8 hours after  engine operation. The oil and filter change should be done on a warm to hot engine. If your service provider says that they can do it while you wait or return it to you in the same day be wary. Pay for what you get and get what you pay for. Just my 2 cents worth.
Happy drifting,   CDD

Agree, it had the oil and filter at 500 and I will do again at 1k.  Guess I should save up and have the clearance checked just to be safe.

Thanks,

BP

Personally, I would do the oil change; it is cheap,(especially if you do it yourself) if the book calls for valve setting at or before the mileage you are at, I would get that done as well.  However, it is really your call; to me, oil and filter is cheap insurance.

I know right?  The lady I purchased it from bought it new in 2009 (it's an '06)  I picked it up bout a week or so ago and have put 300 miles on it already.  :)

Troll

The valve lash adjustment is what's expensive to do...the rest is no big deal. 500 miles in how many years???

So, I'm having a hard time with the $320 bill that will come from my bikes 500mile service.  The prior owner had the oil and filter changed at 500 miles and now, with 900 miles on the bike, I'm debating whether or not to have the service done or not.  Thoughts from every one?  I have read a lot on the web that most people do it themselves as there is not much to the service.  The only thing in question that I don't feel comfortable doing myself on the list of services performed is the lifter/valve clearance check.

What do you guys think?  Do or do my self?

Thanks everyone.
