Stand - Power off

My 1999 1500 kills the engine as soon as I let the clutch out, if the kick stand's down.

I recently bought a 2002 1500 drifter. It's beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But I notice the engine does not cut out/turn off if I put the bike in gear, with the bike stand still out. Is this normal?
My 900cc Vulcan immediately cuts as as a safety feature
