As always Chief, Thank you for coming to the rescue of another Drifter Rider/Rider. One thing is for sure you don't discriminate against bikes.  You help and love them all!

You could have a bad sensor, or gauge. I don't have a good picture of this... we are renovating our offices and I can't find all my "stuff"... which is in boxes. If you haven't already done so, get yourself a factory service manual and the clymer's manual... they really help.

Anyway if you remove the speedometer cover, coming out of the tank, next to the triple tree there is a female 2-pin gauge connector. Disconnect that. Turn on the ignition and short the fuel level sensor wires... Gauge should read empty when connector wires are open, should read full when shorted.

The the gauge readings are ok, the fuel level sensor is bad. If you didn't get the right readings you need to check the guage and the wiring.  If the wiring and connectors are good, you ahve a bad gauge. This would mean you need the whole speedometer, it only comes as an assembly.

Someone might be able to get a picture of the fuel level sensor connector for you.

I haven't started my 2003 Drifter 1500 in a month. When I started it up today the fuel gauge doesn't move. It shows empty. I kept Seafoam in the tank along with a full tank of gas. I rode it @ 110 miles till the low fuel light came on. It ran great. Filled it back up. It only took @ 2.5 gal. I never put any faith in either the gauge or the low fuel light, but having the gauge working would be nice. Any Ideas? I am hoping the gauge is going to work it's self loose.
