I have after market Air, (Thunder box with Hyper charger), I also have a Power commander III with USB. Make sure the wires to the PC is hooked up correctly or it WILL run like crap. suck fuel and blow a lot of black smoke. If the cross pipe is gone from the dual air system you won't be able to install stock air system without some major work.  Make sure the reeds are removed and plates installed.

I posted this plate I made here, a couple of times. The throttle body is bone stock, so finding a plate that will fit should be no problem. The $80 thing that Thunder has is an adapter that will mount their $100 backing plate...that's why I made my own. I used a K&N from an 800 with the top hat part cut out to give me a 2 1/4 inch high air filter. You will need to get that height to keep from hitting the bottom of the fuel tank.  Here are a couple of links to what I did:   http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/forum/index.php?topic=16357.0       http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/forum/index.php?topic=16283.msg27559#new

I made my own out of 3/16 aluminum.

Do you have any pictures?  I have no idea what the original mouth looked like.  If it is just making a flat, mounting plate adaptor(basically an O with the bolt holts in the right place), it wouldnt be too bad.

Almost looks like what i have might be stock-ish.  Thunder said they had a part kit for me.  80 bucks but things are looking great!

Thunder mfg. makes a backing plate and an adapter for this set up. I made my own out of 3/16 aluminum.

Top and bottom shot. I figure it isn't stock, can anyone identify the mouth pattern for when I order a filter?

I know all about the power issue.  When I got the bike it had the headlight, 2 spotlights, and 2 halogen "fog" lights hardwired in so they came on with the ignition and made starting the bike on cold mornings a PITA plus would drain my battery every 2-3 weeks.

Ill try and get pics of the air cleaner tonight.  Worried that the retard that had the bike before me took off a bracket or something necessary.

Honestly don't know what/where FI addons would be.  Been all over my bike and never noticed anything with any logos/writing on it.  Bike doesn't backfire, and I wouldn't know if it was running bad(first bike, its always been like this).  Only issue I've had is it fouls the plugs every couple of months, and craps unburnt fuel if you rev it hard.  It does have pretty bad mpg compared to what I've read should be normal.

1) Adding a spotlight bar will provide all the "headlight" lighting you could want. Just monitor the power usage carefully. Drifters don't have a lot of excess capability.

2) You REALLY need a filter. There are a lot of options. Have a look at the Mods/Tips section of the web site.
3) With air and pipe mods I am really surprised the bike isn't running like crap without a add-on FI box (PC commander, Cobra FI2000, etc). Are you sure there isn't one already installed? The bike should be backfiring and eating fuel. If there isn't one, with the current mods and those you propose, you REALLY need to add one.

Howdy again, time for my next round of upgrades.

Lights:
Going to switch to LED turn signals and maybe a new/brighter headlight.  Does anyone have any good suggestions/reviews?  I know i'll need a new flasher box(whatever it is called) to make the turn signals not blink like crazy.

Air cleaner:
The guy who had the bike originally had taken off both sides of the air cleaner assembly and had straight intake pipes....with no filter.  I have been useing "custom" filters put in behind the pipes, but i want a real air cleaner.

Power Commander:
My plugs foul fairly fast/easily, revving the bike produces a cloud of unburnt fuel.  I attribute this to the combo of aftermarket pipes and basically no air cleaner that could be restricting air flow compared to a stock filter.  However, if i upgrade to a non-stock air cleaner, should i go with a power commander/etc?
