Yeah, too much space there will cause some wind buffeting problems.

  I put a Ntional Cycle shield on my 800 but you have to use some supplied rubber stuff under the mounts.
I also don't like the fact there is about 5" of space between the headlight and headlight cutout.

No, the classic front end is a bit different... upper triple tree area. So, not all w/s kits for classics will work on the drifter.

I believe the National Cycle mounts will work, but the Memphis Shades won't. Also don't think the F&S will work without reworking brackets.

Best bet is to go to the accessories area for windshields and check out DRIFTER specific shields... Rifle, NC, etc. IMHO.

Is there anything specific about the drifter that I need to watch for when getting a windshield? Or will the mount kit and windshields for a Classic work since it uses essentially the same front end setup?
