     WOW, i set out this mornen with tools an trailer in tow. on a drifter hunt cuz i got the fever rite. having done several restos in my time i tryed to prepare myself for the worst. well ive been handed a sack of crap before but never one this large. still steady hopefull tho,(VD fever). upon arrival the man waved me twards the barn, still steady hopefull mind you i got my tools out an marched on in hopen iam gona drag me a drifter home. when i first talked toem he said he had an oil pressure reading of about ten pounds, so i hooked up my own oil pressure guage, jumped thru a few more hoops an pulled the plugs fer a compression check, WOW. one lung only had 30lbs, the other had enough ta thump. ok, so iam thinken motor swap, (no oil pressure) steady hopefull tho cuz i got the vd fever,on to the driveline inspection. the ring an pig is twisted all ta hell. (chunks of gear comen out the drain access) now iam dissapointed, down rite insulted, wat was a beatiful piece of machinery has been abused in the worst kinda way. the only good part of this bike was the frame, it was still stright. on to the next one. on the other hand, ive done some motor mods ta my lil 800, lets jes say it now exceeds my expectations. it started out with about 50horse, shes pushen 74 now. love it.

How is he measuring the oil pressure?  The service manual calls for 50-64 PSI @2000 rpm with the engine warmed up. You are supposed to install your gauge in place of the oil pressure switch back by the filter.

Drifter's don't have POGs, so that's NOT the problem.

wats goen on my brother, listen i located a 03 drifter, havent seen it yet but the guy says its very clean, oil pressure problem tho, (10pounds@4000rpm with new filter an oil strianer removed with 20/50 oil) wats this iam hearing about a plastic piece in the oil pump.(pog) he seems to think this may be the prob. if in fact it is this is major surgery, wata ya know about this, if need be would a 1500clasic motor work. AHHHHHH    i got drifter fever bad bro.
