Turn Signals

I just had to replace my signaling unit last spring, and the new replacements do away with the 8 second timer.  They still go off after 200 and some feet though, all by themselves.  Like TC said though, I always hit the button to shut them off........it's a good habit to get into.

The self cancel turn signal works on time and distance mesurement. Turn on the signal, a timer count 8 seconds and the a sensor measures 65 meters (about 215 feet for us metric challenged people) and shuts the signal off. At some of our longer red lights around here mine shuts off before I get make my turn.

 I believe I read some where that it is a combination of leaning and then straightening up and a timer.
If you just put the light on and continue down the road it will cancel itself after so many seconds.
I like to let people know my intentions early so when I first got a bike with the self canceling feature I was putting the light on way to early and it would cancel before I got to the turn.

yip ok so here is my next story, grew up in the motorcycle business, when we were kids, one year you learn to ride a bicycle without trainers, the next summer you got your first dirt bike, but when I went to college and then got married, had kids, got divorced and all that stuff that happens to people, I was away from it for 20 years, now all but one of the kids is grown and gone, and the one thats left is learning to love riding.  So I am relearning all of it all over again.  I spent the best 250 bucks of my life and took a rider safety class, then bought a bike.  so now I been back at it for just over 2 years and I am such a silly creature of habit that I am slowly teaching myself new habits.  when riding dirt bikes in the uhhhhh late 70's we were taught that you use mostly back brakes unless on a hill pointing up. Now they teach to use both brakes equally, that was new.  there were several other things.

so what is it that triggers the turn signals to auto cancel? turning the wheel? levelling the bike back out? or what?

 Thats a good way to get killed on a bike. The on coming cage driver sees your signal light and figures you are turnig and pulls out in front of you.
To answer your question yes, you have an auto cancelling turn signal. That being said, I always push the button anyway, it is a good habit to get into.

I do believe that is a feature on all drifters. I do have them on my 99 1500.

ok, so I am notorious for leavinng my turn signals blinking after a turn, my kids call it the "idiot light" but in my car I forget to use them a lot, I tell the hubby I am low on turn signal fluid haha,

but in all seriousness, I have noticed I have been checking my lights after a turn, and they are almost always turned off, does my 03  800 have some sort of auto cancelling thingie for my turn signals?
