There is a sticky topic in the MODS/TIPS section with this info...

You go with the AVG Octane... 87, which is regular. The 1500 requires premium.

Ya know, I've been wondering about this for a while... I've been running 89 octane in my 1500 since I own it, and now, almost 20,000 miles down the road, I find that there is no difference in performance between 91 and 89...Neither improves fuel mileage or power. I have run 87 at times when 89 wasn't available, and there is no problem with that, either. This octane thing has gotten really confusing since the new laws went into effect about, what 20 years ago, so no one really seems to know what anything means. I would suggest you try this link, and see if it makes any more sense to you after you read it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating
My service manual says "high Octane Fuel", what ever that means, as opposed to, like farm gas with an octane of 80? The specs listed on the web site call for avg 87...mon+ron/2= avg..., so I guess, if it doesn't ping under load.......

I have been told on another forum NOT to run premium (93 Octane),that its not recommended for 800's. However on the spec page for the Drifter 800 it says "Min 91 Research/87 Avg. Oct". So what is it, Premium or Regular?
