Hi-ya'll,,,,,,,ive been a lurket for a while now,,figure i might as well ride in as join. I bought a 06 Drifter 800 new when the dealer was selling out(back in 06)..The only major mod has been the removeal in the inner pipe in the exhaust tip,,,sounds cool,,,good rumble.

I just wanted to share a lil note though,,,,i wanted saddlebags when i got the bike,,i order the black saddlebag mounts,,,,and when i got them,,i seen that these mounts could only be used on a dual rider seat..BUT,,i was able to use the mounts still yet and install saddlebags....What i did was,,Turn the kawa bags mounts 'upside down' and i bolted the mounts under the single seat,,and got a piece of flat stock steel and bolted it to the mounts to make the mounts longer,,,,,,,then i was able to bolt the saddlebag supports to the extended flat stock steel...and the rest went easy...So its safe to say,,that any 800 drifter can use the single seat with the standard kawa bag mounts and supports,,,you just need to add a 12 inch long piece of flat stock steel,,,,,the size of the steel is 1 1/2" wide X 1/4" thick.

I can post a couple a pics if need be,,(assumeing i can upload them here),,,,This is a quick and easy mod,,and no expensive or large combersome brackets.

thanks

Welcome to the forum.

It would be great if you could post the bag mount method to the Mods/Tips area along with pics.

The 800 and the 1500 are very different in this area.  The 1500 has two "ears" on the frame under the seat that the saddlebag struts bolt right on to.

sorry bout the late reply,,ive been busy hitin the bike shows,,,,my Drifter took 1st place at 2 events this weekend,,here are a couple a pics,,,,,,and one of the events was at a Drag Strip,,,ive got a short video of my me & my Drifter hittin the drag,,quality of video is not very good,,,next time ill have a better camera,,here's a link to my run:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lEuBF3Klho

But i will post some pics later today of my bags & mounts,,,,,You can indeed take the stock Optional Drifter 800 bag mounts,,,turn them upside down and they work to install bags.....All ya need is an extra piece of steel flatstock to make em work.....pics to follow today.

Ok,,here tis the pics,,,i am not the best at takin pics,,nor is my cameraphone,,but i will get a good camera soon,,,I edited the pics to try and show detail best i can.

Bottom Line is,,You Can Use The OPTIONAL STOCK SADDLEBAG MOUNTS & SUPPORTS on a SOLO SEAT on the 800 DRIFTER,,,,all folks need to do is:

#1 ,Exchange the Left Side Saddlebag Mount with the Right Side Saddlebag Mount
#2,Turn the Saddlebag Mount Upside Down & bolt to frame under the seat.
#3,Use Flatstock Steel to extend the Saddle bag Mount,,bolting to the Mount's Holes....
#4,Install Saddle Bag Supports to Flat Stock Steel.
#5,If needed, use more Flatstock Steel Inside the Saddlebag as extra support & mounting

Simple & Effective,,,

Again,I apoligise for the low quality pics

You should post them in the MODS/TIPS section. AND, let me know and I will make a web page if appropriate and list them out on the website too.

Scootworks sells an aftermarket set for sissy bar, rack and saddlebag mounts.  I mounted them on my 800 and bought cross over bags.  It all works great.  bjw
